Marriage Talk

In 2016 my husband and I decided that for Christmas we were not going to do the gift thing anymore. Neither one of us is big on buying presents for people. It’s just not our love language. Which works out great with us being married and all! Really, it is just more stressful than it is fun.

So how did we celebrate Christmas? We went on vacay! I know; way more expensive than just buying a couple of gifts, but since we don’t have kids yet, we want to soak up all of the adventures that we can with just us. He had been wanting to take me to Colorado for quite some time. I, however, do NOT like cold. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE snow. I think it’s beautiful to look at and get out of work/school for. (That’s what happens when it snows in the south. Everyone goes bonkers- like they’ve never seen such a thing!) Nobody can drive and the bread and milk disappear off the shelves like it’s the apocalypse. I am seriously not joking!

See, people even make memes about it! (found this on a random Facebook post)

But to choose to go somewhere where it’s -4 every morning and snowy/windy every day? To ride a terrifying contraption, with no seat belt, all the way up a mountain only to force yourself down it at uncontrolable speeds?  (Obviously I had a rough experience with skiing). Not my choice of fun.

Despite my failed apptempts to go somewhere that swimsuits and sunscreen would be our attire all week, on December 26 we woke up at 5 a.m. and set out on our adventure. It’s about a 12.5 hour drive from where we live to where we were going. I really love traveling. My favorite type of traveling is by car. I love roadtrips. They are so fun! Especially when you’re in great company. What better than with your best friend? At least I could enjoy this part of the trip until my torture began!

When we finally arrived, we spent three days in Winter Park. It was awesome. (HUH? I thought you said you hated this kind of thing?) Yes, I hated skiing. Hated it. It was my first time and it thoroughly stressed me out beyond belief. It was bitterly cold and every time we got in the car to go somewhere I thought we were going to die. Remember the whole southern apocalypse thing? I’m tellin’ ya, it’s real. But, it was an incredible getaway.

My sweet husband. Lord, bless him. He was so kind and patient. This trip was great for us. We learned so much about each other that never would have been known had we not taken this vacation. We learned new limits. We had conversations that we needed to have. Simply put, our relationship grew. I am so thankful for that.

I am so thankful that God allowed us new opportunities with each other. We began a new challenge together. It is a prayer challenge. I encourage you, to take the challenge also. Married or not, take challenges, pray more. Learn about each other and KEEP learning about each other. No matter how long you have been married- 5 years or 55 years! Whether you are just entering a relationship with someone, or just got engaged, keep learning about the person you could be spending the rest of your life with. Learning new things about each other will keep your relationship alive. It will definitely never get boring that way!

But most importantly, in your relationships, keep Christ in the center. If you have no idea what I am talking about, find out. Do what you have to to see who Jesus is. But please, just try. If you know Him, but have not kept Him as priority of relationships, put Him back. Seriously. Just like our relationships with others here on Earth we have to keep our relationship, with Jesus, alive. I promise, you won’t regret it.

“He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:15-16

It’s a new year; make the most of it!

Here’s some photos from the trip:
